  • Communication
    • Strong communication skills are continuously listed as the top skills desired by employers. Students will learn to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, to improve listening skills, and how to apply those skills in team and leadership roles.
  • Global and Cultural Awareness
    • Increasingly diverse organizations and the global business environment requires employees demonstrate the ability to adapt communication styles and to effectively relate to coworkers and clients alike. Students will increase intercultural communication skills through learning now how culture and communication are intertwined.
  • Critical Thinking
    • Students will learn to analyze the factors that impact interaction with others to promote effective communication in diverse settings.
  • Information Literacy
    • Our courses train students to use accurate and trustworthy information when forming messaging as the foundation of ethical and effective communication.
University Transfer Options:

Students who complete Columbia State’s Mass Communication major have a variety of university degree paths available upon transfer to our university partners. The Tennessee Transfer Pathway allows students completing a two-year Mass Communication degree at Columbia state to transfer to Tennessee public universities to complete their bachelor’s degree.

Students interested in specific programs in Mass Communication will find a variety of degree paths once they transfer to a four-year institution.
