Choir

The College Chorus (Choir) is one of the two music ensembles for credit at Columbia State.

The College Chorus meets on the Columbia Campus. Under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music- Holli Scholz (hscholz@columbiastate.edu), the mixed men's and women's chorus performs at a variety of events each semester including the school's end of semester music program and at local churches and assisted living facilities.

Attention students: You do NOT have to be a music major to join the choir!

Any current student at Columbia State can sign up for chorus (MUS 1410 in the college catalog). Four semester hours are required for music majors with a vocal emphasis.

Requirements to receive an A for choir include attending all rehearsals and performances. The choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:20 p.m. on the Columbia Campus, Hickman building, room 145. All students within the College Chorus are considered for one of the smaller performance groups Men's Ensemble, Treble Chorus, with opportunities for solos, duets and trios. Extra rehearsals and auditions are scheduled as needed for solos, Chamber Ensemble, Treble Ensemble and Men's Ensemble.

Other music groups in the music department include Instrumental Ensemble (includes woodwinds and strings) directed by Dr. Mark Lee, and the J.A.M Club (a student/faculty/community club for playing music) which meets once a week.

Instrumental Ensemble Directed by Dr. Mark Lee (mlee@columbiastate.edu) meets Fridays on the Columbia Campus
