The ACCUPLACER® Test at Columbia State

The ACCUPLACER® test is used by Columbia State to determine appropriate course placement for new students. It is not a pass/fail exam; instead, it helps identify which courses best match a student’s current level of readiness. Students with valid ACT or SAT scores from within the past five years may also use those scores for placement or choose to challenge their placement by retaking the ACCUPLACER® or ACT.

Guidelines:

  1. To register for the ACCUPLACER® exam, you must first be admitted to Columbia State and cleared to test.

  2. First-time students with valid ACT scores (taken within the past five years) will be placed based on those scores. Students may choose to challenge their ACT or SAT placement by taking the ACCUPLACER® up to two times. Students initially placed using the ACCUPLACER® may also challenge their placement up to two times.

    • Challenges may not be completed on the same day as the initial testing.

    • At least 15 days must pass before a retest.

    • Final placement will be based on the highest scores from all valid instruments.

  3. Testing fees:
    • Initial testing for Columbia State students: Free
    • Challenge of valid ACT, SAT, or prior ACCUPLACER® scores: $25 per session (non-refundable and non-transferable)
    • Virtual testing (with voucher), remote ACCUPLACER® testing for Columbia State students: $28
    • Outside Institution ACCUPLACER® testing for students: $25
      • All fees must be paid to the Business Services Office prior to testing and are
      • non-refundable and non-transferable.
