Columbia State Women’s Soccer Player Commits to Dakota Wesleyan University
Columbia State Community College Women’s Soccer player Kori Harshman recently signed on to transfer and play at Dakota Wesleyan University in South Dakota.
“I’m thrilled for Kori, she’s been an outstanding member of our program for two years,” said Kean Barclay, Columbia State women’s soccer coach. “I am grateful for everything that Kori has brought to our program to help elevate our level over the past two years. Her commitment to what we have been building here as been incredible. I know what she’ll be great at DWU because they’re not just getting a quality player, but a great character as well.”
A Silverdale, Washington native, Harshman came to the Columbia State’s women’s soccer team from Central Kitsap High School. A Opportunity Scholarship recipient, she was awarded with Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Academic Achievement. A pre-physical therapy major, she plans to eventually earn a master’s degree in athletic training and hopes to become an athletic trainer.
Harshman’s fondest memories at Columbia State stem from the women’s soccer team, stating that the dedication of Coach Kean and the other players was the reason she decided to move across the country to attend the college.
“Playing soccer at Columbia State has pushed me to want to do the absolute best with my academic career,” Harshman said. “Coach Barclay is huge on all of us flourishing in our classes and wants us to do well and is always there for us when we have questions about anything athletically or academically. Overall, playing soccer here has taught me to focus on academics just as much and how to manage my workload without overworking myself.”
As Harshman prepares to embark on her new chapter, she reflected on her time at Columbia State.
“I loved being so intertwined within the community and having so many opportunities to meet new people,” she said. “I have made so many lifelong best friends just from playing soccer at Columbia State. All the faculty at Columbia State are amazing and caring for each and every individual and will go out of their way to help you with anything if that is what it takes. I also love how students have access to so many resources. Columbia State wants you to succeed and that is something that I love about the school.”
Columbia State is a member of both the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). For more information on Columbia State women’s soccer, visit www.ColumbiaState.edu/Womens-Soccer.
