Columbia State Community College recently honored 16 veterinary technology program graduates in a pinning ceremony.

“Veterinary Technicians are essential members of the care team for animals of all species, functioning similarly to nurses in human medicine,” said Dr. Kae Fleming, Columbia State dean of the Health Sciences Division and professor of radiologic technology. “These graduates have completed a rigorous educational program and are prepared for rewarding careers!”

A veterinary technician primarily functions as professional technical support to veterinarians, biomedical researchers and other scientists. Qualified veterinary technicians are responsible for clinical pathology, radiology, surgical assisting, office and hospital management and other related duties.

“Since just starting this job in February – I have not had a large amount of time to spend with this class,” said Dr. Julie Anderson, Columbia State program director of veterinary technology. “But I quickly realized what a bright and talented group of individuals they were. I am impressed with this class for all that they have accomplished. The class of 2022 is an excellent representation of our veterinary technology program here at Columbia State. They make me proud to be the program director.”

Columbia State has one of only six vet tech programs in the state of Tennessee. This program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and offers students the opportunity to become a veterinary technician and receive an Associate of Applied Science degree.
