Columbia State Film Crew Sweeps Awards at Film Fest

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – May 1, 2019) - - -Columbia State Community College’s Film Crew Technology students recently participated in the 54 Film Fest where they won eight honors for a short film they had to write, shoot and edit in 54 hours.

The film, “DUAL,” is about a lonely man named Phil who fears social interaction and avoids people at all cost. After he invests in a new, technologically-advanced game, he realizes that this is the least of his worries, and what he should really fear is being left in the same room as himself.

The film won Best Makeup for Student Film, Best Motion Graphics, Best Motion Graphics for Student Film, Best Visual Effects for Student Film, Runner up for Best Wardrobe for Student Film, Runner up for Best Editing, Runner up for Best Visual Effects and Runner up for Best Cinematography.

“I'm proud of the students for taking on this task,” said David Smith, Columbia State director and associate professor of Film Crew Technology. “It's a lot of work to be done in 54 hours and they rose to the occasion.”

Hunter Candari, Columbia State FCT student, has competed in this film festival four times and has adjusted to the short time constraints and random genre assignment.

“I have learned that if you take your time in pre-production, you have greater odds for success,” Candari said. “I have benefited entering festivals because I have had the opportunity to network and to learn how to work in a group with time constraints.”
