Columbia State Hosts IT Career Exploration Event

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – April 23, 2019) - - -Representatives from Acadia Healthcare, Jackson, Nissan and Tractor Supply Company discussed careers, internships, apprenticeships and opportunities in a discussion panel at Columbia State Community College’s second annual Information Technology Career Exploration Event on the Williamson Campus.

“The second annual IT Career Exploration Event was a resounding success for all participants,” said Dr. Dearl Lampley, vice president of Williamson Campus and external services. “I am so thankful for the support our local industry partners have demonstrated for our IT program and our students. Events such as this will help fill the huge shortage of IT employees in our area. Deepa Janakiraman, assistant professor and program director for computer information technology, is to be commended for making this event come to life.”

The event, sponsored by Columbia State’s computer information technology department, offered over 100 students the opportunity to explore IT careers and network with prospective employers.

“Information Technology is one of the fastest growing job sectors in the country,” Janakiraman said. “This is a great opportunity for students to explore careers in this field and listen to a panel of experts discuss industry trends.”
