Softball Team Recognized for Two Outstanding Years
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Feb. 13, 2015) Recently, both the 2013 and the 2014 Columbia State Community College softball teams were honored with a banner recognizing each team's accomplishment in finishing as runner-up in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VII Tournament. Each team also came in second in the state conference tournament.
Members of the team during both years include Mandy Bunnell, Baylee Cothron, Rebecca Curtis, Sherry Dawson, Brooke Herron, Julianna "Taco" Melton, Ashlee Price and Carmen Whitfield. Current team members who were on the 2014 runner-up squad were Kari Gipson, Taylor Hutton, Kaitlyn Miller, Callie Pendley, Hayley Smothers and Morgan Ward.
Several members from the softball teams were noted for pursuing excellence both in their athletics and academics.
Mandy Bunnell (Decatur, Alabama) was recognized as a Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, made dean's list, and was a member of the 2nd team all-conference as well as all-tournament team in 2013. She earned an Associate of Science degree (general transfer) in spring 2014.
Becca Curtis (Loretto) made dean's list, was the team captain, and was a member of the 2013 all-conference regular season and all-conference tournament teams. She earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in information systems technology in medical office technology in spring 2014.
Ashlee Price (Harvest, Alabama) was a Phi Theta Kappa member, made both the dean's and president's list, was a TCCAA Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, and was a member of the 1st team all-conference. She earned an Associate of Science degree (general transfer) in spring 2014.
