CWD Offers Professional Development Courses in May

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - April 29, 2014) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development is offering a variety of professional development courses online and at its Columbia campus during the month of May. Courses include computer, health care and leadership for anyone who would like to learn new skills or refresh the skills they already have.

In "Introduction to Excel 2010," students learn to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. The one-day course is being offered twice, Friday, May 2 and again May 30.

"Online Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate" is an online course in which students receive training on how to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research and writing, and appellate procedure. The course is delivered in two consecutive seven-week sessions, from May 5 - June 20 and June 30 - Aug. 15.

The "Introduction to QuickBooks 2013" course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, as well as other updates from 2013 software. This class will take place May 9.

"Medical Coding Certification Preparation with Medical Terminology" is for the individual that has no experience but wants to become certified in medical coding or for someone who has some experience but wants to become certified. The class will run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings May 6 - Sept. 9.

Medical coders are professionals skilled in classifying medical data from patients' records. Coding practitioners review patients' records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. The 36-week "Online Medical Coding" course begins May 12.

By the end of the "Reaching Agreement in a Team" course, you will be able to drive business results through consensus building, ensure that all group members contribute to the decision-making process, select and apply the best consensus-building techniques to the situation, and increase your work group's commitment to group decisions. The four-hour class will take place May 14.

"OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Course" is the official Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour general industry course sanctioned by OSHA to provide students with a basic review of the commonly implemented Tennessee OSHA standards for general industry in which implementation techniques and insights into interpretations of specific areas of the regulations will be discussed. Course completion cards will be awarded from the OSHA National Training Institute to each person attending the course. This class will be held May 16.
