Chargers Basketball Ranked 10th Nationally
The Division I team is led by Brian Collins, who is in his second year as head basketball coach at Columbia State. After ending last season with a 10-16 record, Collins is confident that his players have what it takes to go all the way this year.
"We're extremely excited for our college to get that kind of recognition," Collins said. "If we continue to do things right on and off the floor, we'll have a chance to compete and stay in ranking. This is not a reason for us to relax."
Collins commented that he has a lot of talent on his team this year, including guard Arturs Bremers of the Republic of Latvia, who has already committed to North Carolina Agricultural and Technological State University next fall.
T.J. Dunans, a freshman from Atlanta and 6-foot-5 guard, was the NJCAA player of the week for the week of Dec. 3. He is currently sought-after by both the University of Tennessee and Auburn University.
Leading the nation in assists is Justin Pride, freshman point guard. Averaging 8.5 assists per game, he is consistently where he needs to be to set up the scoring shot.
By staying consistent and keeping their rhythm going, the men's basketball team is positioned to continue to make its mark in the region, state and nation.
After a short winter break, the Chargers will return to the court Jan. 3-4 for the West Plains Classic in West Plains, Mo.
