Columbia State To Host Belmont Student Quartets
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 21, 2013) - - - On Oct. 30, Columbia State Community College's Department of Music and Lyceum Committee, in conjunction with the Williamson County Public Library, will host "Mozart and Jazz," featuring Belmont University's classical and jazz student string quartets.
"These musicians are very talented," said Emily Gaskill, Columbia State associate professor of music. "This event promises to be entertaining, educational and inspirational."
The 6 p.m. concert features students who come from several states throughout the country to perform at a variety of events throughout the year, including the upcoming American String Teachers Association National Conference in Louisville, Ky. in spring 2014.
The classical string quartet is coached by Elisabeth Small, assistant professor of violin and coordinator of strings, while the jazz string quartet is coached by Tracey Silverman, adjunct instructor of music. Both teach at the Belmont University School of Music
"The Belmont student quartet performances hosted by Columbia State is always a joy," said Dolores Greenwald, library director. "We appreciate the long established tradition of the quartet providing excellent programs to our customers here at the Williamson County Public Library."
The Williamson County Public Library is located at 1314 Columbia Ave. in Franklin. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to arrive early.
