"Ring of Fire" Opens 2013-2014 Performance Series

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Sept. 9, 2013) - - - Stories of faith, family, passion, redemption and humor will set the stage ablaze in the production of "Ring of Fire - The Music of Johnny Cash." The music of the "Man in Black" opens the 2013-2014 First Farmers Performance Series Sept. 26 at Columbia State Community College's Cherry Theater.

"We're delighted to open the series with 'Ring of Fire,'" said Dr. Janet F. Smith, Columbia State president. "The music of Johnny Cash has touched generations, and this show is sure to bring a number of fans out for an unforgettable night, as we remember a legend."

"Ring of Fire - The Music of Johnny Cash" features more than 35 of Cash's hit songs, including "I Walk the Line," "I've Been Everywhere," "Folsom Prison Blues," "A Boy Named Sue," and "Ring of Fire." Primarily remembered as a country music artist, Cash's musical style spanned from gospel to folk to rock to blues with country in between.

The critically acclaimed "Ring of Fire" is considered one of the best "jukebox musicals" of its time. The New York Post called it "Effective, funny and imaginatively presented." Variety declared, "'Ring of Fire' is Hot!" and the Associated Press called it "Touching and exuberant."

A limited number of tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. show and are $20 for adults and $10 for students. To charge tickets by phone using a major credit card, call (931) 540-2879. Tickets can also be purchased at the Columbia State ticket office in the Pryor Administration building, room 108, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

If tickets are still available the night of the performance, they can be purchased one hour prior to the show from the box office located in the Waymon L. Hickman building lobby.
