Brinthaupt To Present Careers In Psychology Lecture
Lecture Free and Open to the Public Wednesday, April 24
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - April 15, 2013) - - - Psychologists study the mind, as well as human and animal behavior. They experiment, observe, analyze and apply scientific principles. Most importantly, there are a variety of job opportunities in a multitude of settings.
On Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m., Columbia State Community College's Department of Psychology welcomes Thomas Brinthaupt, Ph.D., for a lecture on careers in psychology.
"Psychology is a thoroughly captivating and rewarding career field," said De'Marcus Jackson, assistant professor of psychology at Columbia State. "Hopefully, the event will give psychology majors enrolled at Columbia State ideas on how to forge their career path."
"Additionally, we in the psychology department hope that students who are undecided or have some doubts about their current major will be compelled to investigate the field of psychology after attending the event," Jackson continued.
Jackson said that Brinthaupt, a professor of psychology at Middle Tennessee State University, is an ideal choice to speak about psychology careers because his extensive knowledge in this area will make the event interesting, engaging and practical for all attendees.
The lecture is a summary of Brinthaupt's seminar class, which is a requirement for all psychology majors at MTSU. The course is necessary for success in jobs or graduate school and allows for interest exploration and development of a career timeline and a resume or curriculum vitae.
Brinthaupt earned a Ph.D. in social/personality psychology from the University of Pittsburgh; an M.A. in experimental psychology from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, New York; and a B.S. in psychology from the State University of New York at Oneonta.
The lecture is free and open to the public and will take place in the Ledbetter Auditorium, located in the Frank G. Clement building on the Columbia campus.
