TBCA Names Corn Coach Of The Year

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Jan. 30, 2013) - - - Following a record breaking 2012 season, Columbia State Community College's head baseball coach, Mike Corn, was named Coach of the Year by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. This marks the second consecutive year Corn has received this award.
"I'm honored to have been again selected by the TBCA," Corn said. "In all reality, it's our young men who should be honored. They are the team of the year in my eyes."
The Chargers had an impressive 2012 season with a record 38 consecutive wins at home, a program best 43 victories and an NJCAA national ranking of number four. The 2012 team also boasts four Division-I signees and the only MLB draft pick in the TCCAA, Marsalis Holloway (34th Kansas City Royals).
The Chargers are looking forward to the season starting on Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a trip to Calhoun Community College. The home Opener takes place on Feb. 13 against Wallace State Community College. The double header is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
"With the level of parity seen in today's college athletics, every single game is a challenge," Corn said. "I am anxious to see if our program is mature enough to defend the 2012 TCCAA title. It will take a total buy-in for all of us to repeat last year's success."
Columbia State is a two-year college, serving a nine-county area in southern Middle Tennessee with locations in Columbia, Franklin, Lawrenceburg, Lewisburg and Clifton.
