The Commercial Entertainment Department at Columbia State Community College will present the popular musical "Cats" on Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17 at Columbia State's Williamson County Campus. The performance will be enhanced by a professional live orchestra. There will be two performances:

Friday, April 16, all tickets $10-show begins at 7:30 p.m., Lobby doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 17 (Dessert Theater), all tickets $15-show begins at 7:30 p.m., Lobby doors open at 6 p.m. and serving begins at 6:45 p.m. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended due to limited table seating.

Once a Broadway Show, "Cats" is based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." The play takes place at night under a full moon in a junkyard where the Jellicle cats, a special breed of cat with the ability to be reborn and have three names-one from their human owner, one that fits only that cat's personality and one name so divine that only the cat knows it and still contemplates over it-are competing at the annual Jellicle Ball to be chosen by their leader, Old Deuteronomy, to be reborn.

"This will be a professional quality show," said Cathy Hudnall, Commercial Entertainment Program Director and Assistant Professor of Commercial Entertainment at Columbia State. "There will be games and activities for the children in the lobby before the performance and photo opportunities with the performers after the show."

Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended, especially for the Dessert Theater performance, featuring Freddie Smith's Gourmet Desserts.

"The dessert theater gives audiences a more elaborate atmosphere-it's very entertaining and the desserts are divine," said Hudnall. "Guest attending the dessert theater will get a great show, choice of dessert and a beverage."

"Cats," originally composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is the longest running show on Broadway, second to "Phantom of the Opera."
