COLUMBIA STATE WELCOMES THE ATHENA PIANO TRIO TO THE CHERRY THEATER STAGE
Performance Free and Open to the Public Monday, March 26
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - March 14, 2012) - - - The International and Lyceum Committees of Columbia State Community College welcome the Athena Piano Trio to the Cherry Theater on Monday, March 26 at 12:30 p.m. This free concert is open to the public and features Kristina Siemer, Lindsey Smith-Trostle and Rachel DeVore Fogarty.
"The international slant to this classical music concert should appeal to audience members of all ages," said Ana Basoa-McMillan. Basoa-McMillan noted that the performers blend Siemer on violin, Trostle on cello and Devore-Fogarty on piano as they incorporate works of German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla and Spanish composer Issaac Albeniz.
The artists bring world renowned talent to the Cherry Theater stage. Siemer, an award winning regular of "Live in Studio C" on National Public Broadcasting, has performed live for the Prince of Wales and the Crown Prince of Spain at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and St James Palace. She has held principal positions with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Royal Northern Ballet Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony. She has performed with notable contemporary artists such as Wynona Judd, Donna Summer, Bella Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Bernadette Peters.
Cellist Smith-Trostle plays regularly with the Huntsville Symphony and other regional symphonies and has recorded with Jack White, Tanya Tucker, Kirk Franklin and the Black Mozart Ensemble at Bonnaroo and the Transiberian Orchestra in various cities.
DeVore-Fogarty is a collaborative pianist, church musician and emerging composer. Her works have been performed in Washington, D.C., Boston, Fresno, Los Angeles, San Deigo, London and St. Petersburg. As the composer-in-residence for Schola Pacis, she has been commissioned and featured by Schola Pacis, Millersville University, Hiram College, Conundrum, Sacra/Profana, the Namaste Women's Choir, the Middle TN Vocal Association and the Concert Chorale of Nashville. She serves as the Worship Coordinator and Pianist at Belmont Heights Baptist Church in Nashville.
