Columbia State Student Receives $3,000 Nursing Scholarship

Columbia State Community College nursing student Jennifer Wahba received the "Promise of Nursing for Tennessee" Scholarship. Wahba, a Williamson County resident, will receive $3,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year.

"I felt really surprised and really pleased," said Wahba, about receiving the award.

The scholarship is awarded to nursing students on the basis of academic achievement.

"It is a wonderful honor for her to receive such a prestigious and selective scholarship," said Barbara Blum, interim program director for nursing at Columbia State.

The Promise of Nursing scholarships, which are administered by the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association, are funded by Johnson & Johnson, hospitals and healthcare agencies in Tennessee, and other national companies that share an interest in supporting the education of nursing students.

Wahba, who will begin her second semester in Columbia State's nursing program this fall, plans to work as a registered nurse after graduation. She currently resides in Franklin, Tennessee with her husband and two children.
