COLUMBIA STATE OFFERS ONLINE SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING PROGRAMS

Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit online sustainability programs.
The Biofuel Production Operations Online Training program will give students the education they need to begin an exciting career in biofuel production. Biofuel production operators, ensure the quality and purity of biofuel plants. This involves inspecting and repairing equipment, operating computer systems, and handling lab equipment. This online program will ensure students have the skills needed to handle these tasks. Students will complete the program in 400 hours. The cost of the program is $2,595.
The Building Analyst Quick Start program consists of two online training programs: Principles of Green Buildings and Performing Comprehensive Building Assessments. Students will complete the program in 60 hours. The cost of the course is $1,195.
Principles of Green Buildings
This is the first online program of its kind, developed and written in partnership with experts from Advanced Energy of North Carolina. It covers everything an individual in the building, remodeling, or trade industry needs to know to make buildings perform more efficiently. Students will learn about critical topics ranging from insulation to moisture management to indoor air quality basics.
Performing Comprehensive Building Assessments
This program expands the theories and concepts taught in the Principles of Green Buildings program. Designed for those entering or looking to expand their expertise in the industry, this program features a task-oriented format that will apply practical, real-world situations in each module.
Performing Comprehensive Building Assessments is intended for students who are engaged in conducting building assessments, energy audits, performance testing, energy ratings, green ratings, rating verifications, quality assurance, quality installations, building inspections, home inspections, home tune-ups, or any other related building improvement, evaluation, or repair services that make changes to the building as a system.
Building Analyst Quick Start
Students who successfully complete the Building Analyst Quick Start program will have demonstrated that they have the requisite knowledge and ability to apply these concepts to real-world buildings and their systems. However, it's important to point out that there is no program, lab, or other educational substitute for time spent in the field, working in buildings and experiencing situations first-hand. This program is designed to put students into close simulations of situations they can expect to encounter in the real world. It requires them to learn what the various assessment tools and techniques are, when to use them, and how to use the information gained to prioritize decision-making and how to report this information to various stakeholders. The Certified Green Supply Chain Professional program will help students learn the essentials of green product standards and labeling as well as how to develop sustainability supplier programs, implement sustainable business practices, apply lean and green manufacturing strategies, and integrate these practices across the extended supply chain. Students will complete 60 hours of training and the cost is $1,595.
The Certified Indoor Air Quality Manager program teaches you practical skills to improve your building's indoor air, and it also prepares you for third-party certification by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). The Certified Indoor Air Quality Manager Program will educate students on all the pertinent topics covered on the certification exam. Students take a 100-question practice examination to prepare for the exam. The student will complete 16 hours of training and the cost of the program is $795.
Getting certified is completely optional. Exams are arranged through ACAC at computerized testing centers throughout the U.S. Certain experience requirements and fees apply to ACAC certifications, but there are no experience requirements for this online program.
The Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) Online Certification program helps students better understand how to create a healthy home or building by preventing, diagnosing and resolving indoor environmental problems. Students will complete the program in 32 hours and the cost is $895.
The Natural Gas Plant Operations Online Training program provides students with the knowledge and skills they will need to begin an exciting career in natural gas plant operations. Natural gas has two things going for it. First, it provides clean energy. Second, it's plentiful in the United States. For decades to come, natural gas will be produced and consumed in the United States, creating ongoing demand for natural gas plant operators. Students will complete the program in 400 hours. The cost of the program is $2,595.
The Performing Comprehensive Building Assessments (PCBA) Online Training program will give students a thorough understanding of the building assessment process. This intermediate program focuses on the skills students need to professionally conduct visual building inspections, perform diagnostic testing, determine residential building improvement opportunities, document a home's performance, prioritize improvements, and prepare a work scope that will guide the homeowner's decision-making process for making the improvements. Students will complete 30 hours of training and the cost is $695.
The Principles of Green Buildings Online Training program is designed to teach students the principles they must know in order to make buildings perform more efficiently. The program was developed and written in partnership with nationally recognized building science experts from Advanced Energy of North Carolina. The Principles of Green Buildings Online Training Program will also help prepare folks for industry credentials for green building. Students will complete the program in 30 hours. The cost is $595 and the materials needed are included.
The Senior Certified Sustainability Professional Online Training program will prepare participants for an exciting career as a leader in the green-collar economy. As a certified sustainability professional, students will be responsible for setting the course and coordinating an enterprise's sustainability strategy. Millions of new jobs in this rapidly growing sector will be available to people who set themselves apart from the crowd by earning the professional credentials and skills they need to lead sustainable business practices. Students will complete the program in 110 hours. The cost of the program is $2,495.
The Solar Power Professional program, participants will learn the fundamentals of photovoltaic solar powered energy systems, gaining the knowledge you'll need for an entry level position with a dealer, installer, or other photovoltaic industry company. Students will complete the program in 120 hours and the cost is $1,695.
Wind energy companies are growing exponentially to meet America's demand for clean, renewable, domestic energy. This entry-level Wind Energy Apprentice Online Training program prepares students for a career in the wind energy industry. Students will complete the program in 240 hours. The cost is $2,195.
