(Columbia, Tenn. - April 19, 2011) - - - - Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit courses during the month of May covering a variety of topics.

Introduction to Excel 2007 teaches the student how to get started with Excel 2007 and work with formulas and functions. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, May 27 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes textbook.

Online Medical Transcription course is offered through a partnership with Oak Horizons. The program consists of six consecutive blocks, and will take about six weeks to complete. A student will complete 950 cumulative hours of study during the program. Oak Horizons regularly networks with various employers to document skill needs and program value. Medical transcription is a healthcare profession that is in great need of knowledgeable and skilled professionals. The class will begin on Monday, May 23, 2011. The fee of $1,999 does not include textbook.

The Setting Performance Expectations course will teach the student to help others identify performance expectations that align with the organization's goals, ensure mutual understanding of performance expectations, gain individual or team commitment to fulfilling the expectations in the performance plan, and handle challenging situations that can arise during setting expectations discussions. The class is scheduled for Friday, May 27 from 8 a.m. until noon. The fee of $149 includes the text and all class materials.

The ACT Prep Course helps the student do their best on the ACT Test. Review math word problems, algebraic expressions and geometric concepts. Practice reading for comprehension and review basic grammar rules. Practice timed test taking. The course is designed for new test takers and test repeaters who desire to improve their scores. The class will begin on Monday, May 2, 2011. The fee of $109 includes the text.

Online classes offered through Ed2Go. Take high quality, noncredit online courses no matter where you are located through Columbia State Community College. The Web Database Developer Online Training Program will teach the student how to develop Web applications using several different tools and technologies. The program is composed of multiple modules to give the student a baseline in developing and maintaining Web site databases. Each student will begin by learning basics Web design and graphic skills, followed by training in Web publishing and design with HTML 4.01 and XHTML. The course will also cover the client-side languages, including JavaScript, and extend into server-side languages, such as ColdFusion and PHP. Additionally, the modules cover: AJAX, Dynamic HTML (DHTML), SQL for Windows, CGI and Perl, MySQL, and XML and learn how to install, configure, and maintain SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 10g. The class is 267 hours and begins on May 4, 2011.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) on the Web is the most comprehensive online program on RFID implementation available today.
