COLUMBIA STATE OFFERS NON-CREDIT COURSES IN JULY

Digital Photography, Computer Training, & Paralegal Training available

Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit courses during the month of July, covering a variety of topics.

"Introduction to QuickBooks 2010" covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, and protecting and backing up data. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, July 23 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee is $129 and includes text.

"Introduction to Word 2007" teaches how to create and edit documents in Word 2007, format text and paragraphs, format documents, create and format tables. The class is scheduled for Friday, July 30 from 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes text.

"Introduction to Excel 2007" teaches the student how to get started with Excel 2007 and work with formulas and functions. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, July 16 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes text.

"Intro to Point and Shoot Cameras" teaches the key features of a camera and how to develop personal photography skills. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Tuesday, July 13 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. The fee is $75.

"Intro to Digital Photography" helps participants become familiar with the key features of their camera and how it functions through lecture and hands on training. This class will develop personal photography skills as well as prepare for future classes. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Thursday, July 15 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. The fee is $75.

"Achieving Great Exposures" is a beginner class designed to teach how to obtain proper exposure
to create the image you envision. This class will be held Saturday, July 17 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The fee is $75.

"Composition" will develop the participant's skills in composing artistic and powerful images that engage the viewer. Each participant is provided with a CD with all materials covered in the class. This class will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The fee is $75.

"Online Medical Transcription" is offered through a partnership with Oak Horizions. Medical transcription is a healthcare profession that is in great need of knowledgeable and skilled professionals. This online program has been prepared by experienced professionals who have been owners of successful medical transcription companies and a medical transcription school. The medical transcription program involves an intense curriculum that prepares individuals to be employable and achieve their financial goals. The program consists of six consecutive blocks. Each block contains four to five courses and will take about six weeks to complete. A student will complete 950 cumulative hours of study during the program. Oak Horizons regularly networks with various employers to document skill needs and program value. This class will begin on Monday, July 12.

"Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate" trains the students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research, and legal writing and appellate procedure. This class is scheduled for six weekends on Saturdays and Sundays beginning July 10 through August 15, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The fee of $1,189 does not include text. (Students are also required to purchase texts, approximately $340).

The "Online: Gatlin Education" course are in-depth, career training courses in association with Gatlin Education Services, the world's largest provider of online, instructor-supported training to colleges and universities. The self-paced courses are available anytime, anywhere. All you need is a web-enabled computer and a desire to learn skills that will prepare you for a new career or update current skill sets. Even though you don't have to attend class, you won't be on your own. The "Administrative Dental Assistant" course is nationally recognized as an online certificate program that teaches the essential administrative tasks for managing the business aspects of a dental practice and becoming an Administrative Dental Assistant. This program includes instruction in dental terminology and anatomy, medical records management, accounts receivable and reimbursement management, insurance and patient billing, patient scheduling, and procedural and diagnostic coding. The Administrative Dental Assistant online program will prepare you for a new career working in a dental office. The program takes 150 hours (six months) to complete. The fee of $1,595 includes all materials.

The "Pharmacy Technician" course is nationally recognized as an online course and training program that teaches the skills needed to gain employment as a Pharmacy Tech in either the hospital or retail setting. The objective of the Pharmacy Technician Program is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify for entry-level positions in pharmacies as well as prepare for national certification. The program takes 240 hours (6 months) to complete. The fee of $1,795 includes all materials.
