Columbia State Hosts Student Leadership Institute
COLUMBIA STATE TO HOST STUDENT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Local High School Students to Visit Columbia State on Friday, November 13
Right: Approximately 150 10th and 11th graders from Maury, Williamson, Marshall, Lawrence, Wayne, Hickman, Giles, Lewis and Perry counties attended the Student Leadership Conference at Columbia State last year, focusing on disabilities. This year's conference, to be held on November 13, will teach students how to become aware of different types of communication - from social networking to how to be an effective communicator.
Columbia State Community College will host its annual Student Leadership Institute on Friday, November 13 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Cherry Theater on the Columbia Campus. Attending the event will be approximately 150 10th and 11th graders from various high schools in Columbia State's nine-county service area.
The Institute, titled "Leadership…How Important is Communication" will increase students' contemporary initiative and leadership skills in becoming more aware of different types of communication ranging from social networking to how to be an effective communicator.
"This is an opportunity for high school students to come to a college campus and have a focused institute on critical subject matter that will help them to transition from high school to college," said Christa Martin, assistant to the president for access and diversity at Columbia State.
The institute will include educational workshops on effective communication and social networks, and information on preparing for college such as testing requirements and registration requirements.
