The hot No.4 seeded Chargers look to extend their longest win streak of the season (streak of 5) in the TCCAA Tournament this weekend. The Chargers will play host to No. 5 seeded Dyersburg, also the host team of the tournament. The Chargers will look to add a Seventh Tournament Title to the schools resume' behind starting pitcher Andy Fennell, 8-2, who is expected to be the Game 1 starter. The Chargers are led at the plate by first baseman Ethan Williams who posted a team high .422 Batting average and out of the bullpen by Samuel Davis who nailed down 8 saves with a .68 ERA. April 10 - 15

A loud, bleacher- packed crowd at beautiful Dave Hall field saw the Chargers split with Cleveland State on Saturday, April 10. Saturday's games were a great showcase of the No. 3 and 4 teams in the league.

The Chargers were lead offensively in Game 1 by Justin Pearson who had a career day going 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and 3 rbi's to go along with 2 runs scored. The Charger's Blake Rogers and Ethan Williams continued their hot hitting popping two solo home runs which was just enough for the Columbia State pitching staff to nail down the victory. The Charger's scored 6 runs on 8 hits and 1 error. The Charger's always tough duo of Andy Fennell and Samuel Davis punched in another solid performance; Fennell threw a strong 6 innings allowing 6 hits 3 earned runs and Davis threw a scoreless seventh to seal the save.

In Game 2 the Columbia State faithful witnessed a hard fought back and forth battle of two titans in the TCCAA. The Chargers jumped out to an early 7 to 3 lead that lasted into the 6th inning, the offensive surge lead mostly by Rob Holley and his 4 for 5 3 RBI 3 Run scored performance, before seeing that lead slip away to a 10- 7 deficit. The cardiac Chargers would climb back into the ballgame and tie it in the 8th and push the game into extra innings. The Chargers offense would strand the winning run at 2nd base twice before finally being put away by the hot hitting of Right Fielder Austin Ferrel who hit his 3rd home run of the day for Cleveland State which proved to be the game winner as the Chargers went quietly in the 11th. Samuel Davis showed strong once again with his longest outing of the year going 4 strong innings for the Chargers before giving up the final blow.

The Chargers finish up their season with 8 games over the next 9 days. They will be back at home Saturday April 15 against rival Walters State CC for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.

March 29 - April 2

The Chargers went 3-2 over the past week with a series win, 2-1, over conference opponent Dyersburg. The Chargers swept the double header on Friday in an offensive explosion racking up a total of 13 hits and 16 hits taking both games handily 12-5 and 15-7.

In the first game, the Chargers were lead by the top of the order with Blake Rogers and Ethan Williams. Williams finished the day 2 for 4 with 2 HR's and 7 RBI's. Rogers went 4 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI. Andy Fennell took the win going 7 innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits.

In the second game, the Chargers were lead by a host of Rogers, Williams, Holley, Pearson, and Gentry all compiling multi- hit days. Rob Holley banged out a double and a home run to go with his 2 for 4 day at the plate. Also chipping in was Mark Rayburn who had a base clearing triple. The Chargers were given a strong performance on the mound by Casey Delgado going 5 innings on 6 hits and 2 runs to stake down the win.

The third and final game of series was a different story, however. Dyersburg State jumped out to an early lead scoring 7 runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Tyler Cole took the loss for the Chargers in the series finale going 2 innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits

The Chargers then traveled to Muscle Shoals, AL for a mid-week road double header against non- conference foe Northwest Shoals CC. The Chargers salvaged a split of the double header, 9-8 and 8-6, after dropping the first game in a back and forth battle. After the Chargers moved a man to 3rd base in the last inning Shoals bullpen proved to be too tough and stranded the tying run to preserve the win in game one.

Game 2 the Charger's bullpen proved to be the key as James Kessler provided a strong 4 2/3 inning performance and nailed down the win. Most of the offense was provided by Blake Rogers who sent a 3 balls 2 strike 2 out Grand Slam blast over the left field wall off of Shoals relief pitching. Samuel Davis came in and slammed the door shut with a scoreless 7th and received the save.

The split moved Columbia State's record to 17-17 overall and 10-6 in conference. Saturday, Columbia State plays host to conference opponent Cleveland State, 10-5. The double header match up of the 3rd and 4th place teams will begin at 1 p.m. at Dave Hall Field.

March 26 Game Time Moved from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Due to wet conditions and expected rainfall overnight, the Chargers' game on Friday, March 26 has been moved from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Chargers Baseball Update

Although the Chargers lost two games to non-conference opponent Northwest Shoals Community College on Tuesday, March 23, moving them to 13-13 overall, they swept Motlow State Community College over the weekend with two come-from-behind wins which moved the Chargers to 7-3 in conference play and third in the conference. For the full story, click here. The Chargers host Jackson State Community College this weekend for a three game set. Game time on Friday, March 26 is set for 2 p.m. The series opener will be one nine inning game, with a double header concluding the series on Saturday, March 27 starting at 12:00 p.m.

McQueen Named TCCAA Player of the Week

TCCAA Player of the Week - Justin McQueen of Columbia State... Justin went 6-11 with a double and 3 HR, scored 5 runs and drove in 4.

Fennell Recognized

Chargers pitcher Andy Fennell was recognized as TCCAA Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game shutout with five strikeouts.

Chargers March 9 Game Postponed

The Chargers baseball game on Tuesday, March 9 against Gadsden State has been postponed tentatively to Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m.

Chargers Game Time for March 5 Moved

Columbia State's baseball game on Friday, March 5 against Southwest has been moved from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Williams wins Player of the Week

February 22-28: TCCAA Player of the Week is Ethan Williams of Columbia State. Williams went 5-11, hit 2 home runs, and added 6 RBI as the Chargers took a three-game series from Volunteer State.

Chargers Baseball Games Postponed

Today's (March 1) games against Bethel have been postponed. Columbia State won the weekend series 2-1 against rival Vol State. For a recap of the three games, please click here.

Freshman Jason Overton Throws No-Hitter

The Chargers split their double header with Wallace State on February 23, dropping the first one 4-3 in 9 innings, but bounced back in dramatic fashion winning the second ballgame 6-0 and getting an outstanding performance on the mound from Freshman Jason Overton. Overton threw seven complete innings of no-hit baseball, walking just three batters.

Chargers Baseball Gets Off To Strong Start

The Chargers opened their 2010 season 3-1 during the weekend of February 20-21, with two wins over Cumberland University and a split in a double header with No. 8 in the country Wabash Valley CC (IL). The Chargers lost the first game of that double header 9-8 in 10 innings and won the second by a score of 4-2. Columbia State hosts Wallace State on February 23, who is a traditional powerhouse in Alabama. The Chargers also start conference play on Friday, February 26 with a three-game series against rival Vol State. The second and third games of the series are on Saturday, February 27. The games on Tuesday, February 23 and the single game on Friday, February 26 will be broadcast online at Tennesseesportsnet.com.
