The workshop is the first in Columbia State's Student Success Center Career Services Series.

Columbia State Community College's Career Success Center and South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance collaborated to present a workshop titled "Seeking Employment: 'Right' Your Resume" on Monday, March 29 in the Cyber Center at Jones Student Center on Columbia State's Columbia Campus. This was the first workshop in Columbia State's Student Success Center Career Services Series.

"The purpose of this workshop was to assist students in developing a resume that will help them with employment-whether it's an internship or their career choice," said Dr. Annie Jones, Director of Student Success at Columbia State. The workshop, which was instructed by Paula Harrison, Job Readiness Facilitator for South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance, provided participants with tips on how to make their resumes more eye catching and effective.

"A resume is a one or two page marketing tool that tells potential employers about what makes you unique," said Harrison during her presentation.

Following a power point presentation, participants were given the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the instructor. "Every individual here, she took the time to sit down and help them draft a resume or to look at the one they already had and critique them so that they would leave today with a more polished resume," said Jones.

"The workshop was very helpful-this is something that can be very hard to do by yourself," said workshop participant and Culleoka resident, Lori Jones. "If you've ever applied for jobs or had to put together a resume on your own you know what I'm talking about. Things have changed a lot-she [Harrison] showed us how to put our resumes in order to be noticed above everyone else's."

The second workshop in the series, titled "Interviewing Techniques" will take place Wednesday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m. in the Cyber Center at Jones Student Center.
