Letter from the Director
Hi! My name is Aaron Wimer, and I’m the library director of the Finney Memorial Library at Columbia State. I started as the director in August 2016 and am excited to work with such a diverse student, faculty and staff population. I’m looking forward to getting to know you. I enjoy spending time with my family, our two cats (Athena and Cleo), and playing video games, board games and miniatures games.
I grew up in a small farming village in western Pennsylvania and attended Grove City Schools before moving into the workforce. I held several jobs in restaurants and industrial mills before attending Butler County Community College. After earning my associate degree, I moved to Clarion, Pennsylvania, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a Master of Library Science.
After graduating, I moved to Tifton, Georgia with my family to start my career as a public services librarian. A year and a half later, we moved to Atlanta, and I worked at Southern Polytechnic State University as the outreach/instruction librarian. In 2010, I earned the head of reference position at SPSU and continued to grow, learn and lead other librarians for six years, then moved to Columbia State where I became the library director. Career goal achieved!
I feel very fortunate to have earned this position at Columbia State and look forward to serving the college to the best of my ability. As library director, it is my job to ensure that all of our library users receive the best possible services and resources in all of our locations in order to excel and reach their educational goals. We are constantly growing our services at the library that currently include reference assistance, chat, two open computer labs, interlibrary loan, information literacy classes, and so much more. Please stop in and talk to our friendly and knowledgeable staff, ask about our services, and get to know us. We’re here for you!
We have chocolate. Right, see you in a bit.
If I can be of service, please contact me at 931.540.2555, or awimer@ColumbiaState.edu.
See you in the library!
