Who are Peer Mentors?

Peer Mentors are students helping students.  Peer Mentors are second semester or second year students who have demonstrated success both in and outside the classroom.  Peer mentors serve as informed and knowledgeable academic resources throughout the academic year to enhance student access to academic support services and encourage fact-based decision making for students.

How can Peer Mentors Help?

Extensive training is provided to Peer Mentors so that students can connect peers to information, support services, and tools at Columbia State. Peer Mentors can answer many of the basic questions you have about the college and how to access different services. Peer Mentors can help students with time management, organizational skills, and study techniques. Peer Mentors can also share with students some general tips that helped them become successful here at Columbia State.

How do I become a Peer Mentor?

Paid Leadership Opportunity
$750 scholarship for 75 hours of service.

  • 2.5 GPA
  • 24 or more earned college-level hours
  • Participate in an Interview
  • Extensive Peer Mentoring training that can be used in future endeavors.
  • At least one semester commitment.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop leadership skills.
  • Provide a valuable service to your peers through real-world service, leadership and problem-solving experience by creating intentional and purposeful relationships.
